Hydraulic Modeling Engineer

Water - Bismarck, ND - Full Time

Office Location: Bismarck, ND

Apex Engineering Group has openings for a Hydraulic Modeling Engineer working in our Water Group located in one of our five office locations.  Primary responsibilities include working as a key project team member on water or wastewater projects performing hydraulic modeling, hydraulic analysis, master planning, and capital improvement planning. A Hydraulic Modeling Engineer shall be capable of independently and collaboratively contributing to the development and analysis of water and wastewater system models.  Hydraulic Modeling Engineers typically report to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer. 
 
Typical Tasks and Duties:

  • Develop and calibrate hydraulic models for water and wastewater systems utilizing hydraulic modeling software.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis to obtain input parameters for the models.
  • Assist in conducting field testing of water distribution, wastewater collection, and pumping systems.
  • Analyze model outputs, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive reports to communicate findings to internal teams and clients.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in modeling techniques, software tools, and industry best practices related to water and wastewater systems.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures, guidelines, and protocols for modeling processes and quality assurance.
  • Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Travel and out of town stays may be required periodically; may work overtime as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, water resources, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certified, or ability to obtain certification within one year.
  • O-5 Years of experience working as a Civil or Environmental Engineer in the water or wastewater field.
  • Experience in using general water and wastewater modeling software.  Experience using EPANET, EPASWMM, InfoWater, InfoSWMM, PIPEFLO or similar software is a plus.
  • General understanding of sanitary collection and conveyance systems and/or water distribution systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.
  • Required to work in the office when scheduled.
  • A balance between remote work hours and periodic office hours is possible based on applicant qualifications.  

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit and operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • May be required to work in an outdoors environment during construction season as needed.
  • Must work scheduled and required hours.
  • Required to lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
